Lady Batalia of Solace

Picture
Batalia is an true ISSR Shiloh Shepherd.  Born on 05/2009 from Lolly/Gunny of Solace Shilohs.

This is Batalia at her litter evaluation.  She was such a cute puppy and she still is.

Batalia's Grandma-Nieko of Solace Shilohs

Picture
This is Batalia's grandma Nieko.  You can really see Batalia in her face.  As Ma Shiloh said, you can see your dog in their grandparents and not always there parents.

Batalia at 2 months

Picture
Batalia was 2 months and 9 days old in this picture.  She acquired this rope from our Pomerianian and Batalias adopted older brother Beethoven.  She loved to chew on just about everything at this age (including us).

Batalia at almost 4 months old.

Batalia was almost 4 months old in this picture.  She growing up so fast.  Beside her was one of her favorite toys to play with.  This rope is finally shredded and has gone bye bye.

Batalia at 8 months.

Picture
Batalia is 8 months old in this picture.  She has just started intermidate training at PetSmart.  At this age she is still work on her shyness and being around other dogs and people.  She has come along way though.  She is now showing interest in other dogs and allowing people to slowly meet her on her terms.

Batalia at 9 months old.

Picture
Batalia is 9 months old in this picture.  Today she had a busy morning.  She got a bath this morning (see pics below). We then took her to Scraps to get weighed (She is now 71 lbs).  She then went to Home Depot with us where she met some new people.  We then headed over to PetSmart to get her nails trimmed.  She was so brave and did amazingly well.  She also met some more people.  Then we went to Walmart where we waited outside while my wife and youngest went in to get some quick groceries.  She had a few people stop and say hi to her.  She still gets a little shy at first but then she lets them pet her.  Next week we are going to take her downtown to our Winterfest and sit there with her so people can come meet her if they want.

A Shiloh that loves bubbles!!

Picture
This Shiloh is fascinated with bubbles.  If you are in her way when bubbles fly, she will jump and push you out of the way.  Below are more pics with bubbles.

A bubble popped on her nose.

More bubbles Elisa!!

Batalia got the bubbles 1st.

She wants to pop the bubbles.

Bath time for Batalia.

Picture
One wet Shiloh.
Question!!!  How do you get a 71 lbs Shiloh in a bath tub???  Very carefully.  We tried treats, but that did not work (see below).  We eventually had to lift her front paws then her back into the tub.  When we started pouring water on her, she started to get out.  By the time we were done, I was soaked from head to toe.  She smells a lot better and is a lot cleaner now.

Picture
Dad, can you get me those treats please.
Picture
Dad, I really want those treats but I do not want to get wet.
Picture
She is escaping!!
Picture
I do not like this water stuff.
Picture
OH NO!! She is going to shake.

Who is wetter, daddy or Batalia?

Elisa and Batalia

Picture
Elisa and Batalia, best friends.
We originally got Batalia for our 10 year old Elisa.  2 years ago Elisa was diagnosed with Ewing's Sarcoma which is a rare form of bone cancer in her right femer bone.  The orthopedic surgeon was able to save her leg (barely) and now has an expandable implant in her leg where part of her femer and knee was.  She is not aloud to jump, run or play sports because of the implant.  When she is 18 or 19 (or when she stops growing) she will have surgery again to replace the expandable implant with a permanent knee replacement.  Elisa is currently working on getting her leg to bend.  She is not able to bend it at this time and has to wear a brace on her leg that puts tension on the joint (or hinge) to get it to bend.  The doctor believes it is because of the radiation that was done on her leg.

Batalia keeps her motivated and helps take her for a walk.  Elisa is also responsible for cleaning up after Batalia which also keeps her moving.  We all love our Shiloh and want to thank Ma Shiloh and Laura Kathryn for this wonderful creature.  She is so intelligent and a joy to have around.

Our visit with Ender.

Picture
We had a fun time meeting Carla and Ender.  Next time we will bring Batalia with us.  Ender is such a sweet Shiloh and I think Batalia would have a great time with him.  We would like to thank Carla and her husband to allow us to visit.  Atiya and Elisa had a great time.  I just could not believe how Ender followed Atiya around and wanted to play with her.  Atiya felt like she was at home with Batalia because Ender was doing the same thing Batalia does.  Atiya actually started calling Ender Batalia which I thought was cute.

Fighting Pano again!!!

Picture
It is starting to seem like she gets a bout of Pano once a month.  What is weird is that it shows up in her left shoulder??  She loves to have the ice pack on it.  She would lay there for hours and if you take it away she will just moan at you.

Batalia's best buddy, Atiya.

Picture
Picture
Picture
What can I say about these two.  It is like raising 2 two year olds.  They play, they fight and they make up.  Batalia is always herding her and Atiya is always hiding her toys.  They truly love each other and are lost without each other.  When ever Atiya sees a German Shepherd, Shiloh Shepherd or any other Shepherd that looks like a Batalia, she calls it Tal Tal (Batalias nickname).  These two will definetly grow up together and grow closer and closer everyday.

Becoming best friends, I think!!

Picture
Pictured here is Beethoven, our 12 year old Pomeranian, and Batalia.  She realizes that he is alpha dog but likes to try and pick on him when she gets the chance.  Basically it is a love and hate relationship.  They get jealous of each other but have learned to deal with it.  We haven't had any bad traits taught by Beethoven to Batalia because he is really a good dog.  The only bad thing Beethoven does is bark alot.  That is why we call him "Sir barks alot".  Because he certainly does bark alot.  I know it will be a tough day on Batalia when it is time for Beethoven to pass on.  Hopefully we will get at least a few more years out of him.

The love/hate relationship.

Picture
This is the best picture that we could get of our Tonkinese cat, Simba and Batalia together.  The cat cannot stand Batalia but Batalia is facinated with the cat.  Batalia just wants the cat to play with her but the cat just wants to be left alone.  Batalia will cry and moan to go see the cat in hope that the cat will run so she can chase.  The cat usually just sits still and does not move.  If he would just swat at her nose a few times, she would get the idea and leave him alone but that has not happened yet.

Batalia graduated Intermediate Education

Picture
Well she amazed both myself and the trainer.  Because of her being so cautious of her surroundings, it is a challenge for her to concentrate on what we are asking her to do.  The trainer knew she could do everything we are asking of her, she just was being stubborn and worried about people coming up from behind her.   Don't get me wrong,  she has come along way since she started taking classes.  Just before this picture was taken, she actually went after a dog toy and started playing with it.  She has never, ever done this outside of the house.  It shocked everybody there!!  The trainer commented that it has only taken 4 months to get to this point.  She was also leaving my side in the training room and wondering around.

I am very proud of my Shiloh.  She is coming out of her shell slowly but surely!!

One spoiled Shiloh sleeping on her bed.

Picture
The other day I was joking with my wife when I said "lets give the old crib mattress to Batalia".  She actually thought it was a good idea.  So now she has a crib mattress with her very own pink crib sheet.  As you can see in the picture, she loves it.  She has been sleeping on it for the past 3 to 4 nights and she sleeps all thru the night.  If you look at the price of dog beds, this is actually cheaper.  You can get a new crib mattress at Walmart for $38.00 and a crib sheet for $5.50.  Dog beds for her size usually cost $60.00 and up.  And they don't have the padding that the mattress has.

When we move I am going to make a platform for the matress so that she can be at the same level as our bed so she can lay next to me (now that is spoiled!!).

You can probably pick up a used crib mattress at a discount store for cheaper than $38.00.  Just a thought.

Batalia-In training for Therapy Dog and Service Dog

Picture
Batalia is in training to become a therapy dog and service dog for Elisa.  As you can see in the pictures she is wearing her vest that has the SSDCA Shiloh patch on one side and a Therapy Dog In training patch on the other.  The In training is a velcro patch that is changeable to Certiifed which in which they send with the patch.   When Batalia is wearing her vest she knows it is time to go too work.  It also tells others that she is a working dog and that they should ask to pet her.

If anybody needs or wants an SSDCA Patch, use the Contact us link above to order.  Or if the link is available above, you can just place your order.

Beethoven will not give Batalia her treat ball.  This 12 year old still has spunk.

More pictures of Batalia

Here are some updated pictures of Batalia.  She is now 16 months old and is still working on becoming a Therapy Dog.  She is also being trained to work as a service dog for our daughter Elisa.  Elisa is officially disable due to her inplant in her leg.  Batalia will be trained to help steady Elisa when she walks and also protects her leg.  Enjoy the pictures!!!

One gorgeous Shiloh

Picture
Batalia loves to sit/lay on the couch and look out the back glass sliding door.  She is waiting for birds to fly into the yard so she can go chase them.

Best friends!!

Picture
Elisa loves to snuggle with Batalia.  They are definetly best friends.

Batalia loves to do the treadmill!

Picture
Batalia loves to treadmill!!  She does at least a mile every morning.  In this picture we took Batalia to Elisa's physical therapy and put her on their tread mill.  They are going to blow up the picture and put it on the wall in front of the treadmills with a caption that says "If the dog can do it, so can you!!"  Usually she will get up on the treadmill at home and wait for me to start it.

Puppy nap time.

Picture
If she is not on the couch sleeping she is in one of our recliners.

Rabbit Batalia

Picture
We occasionally give Batalia whole carrots to chew on.  She really enjoys chewing.

Batalia shreds a box.

Picture
We decided to give Batalia a box to see what she would do.  Well she decided to shred it.  Again, she likes to chew!!

Batalia wants her tire.

Picture
This is a love/hate relationship.  Beethoven (the Pomerianian) could care less about the tire but does not want Batalia near him.  This is very cute when he does this.  At 15 years old and deaf, he still has spunk.

Batalia graduated Advanced Class.

Picture
The hardest part of Advanced class is getting this picture with the cap on.  Batalia still needs to work on her seperation issues but overall she has come a long way.  She likes to meet people now but only on her terms.

Batalia and Bissie Bear

Picture
Batalia now has a playmate, Solace-SHS Mystical Bissie Bear (Bissie Bear).  She a plush coat Shiloh Shepherd out of Asia/Aslan 10.  She has lots of spunk and is always playing with Batalia.  Batalia is starting to spend more time outside at night so she can have a break from her.  Every morning Batalia wakes up Bissie Bear (around 4:30 am or 5:30 am) so they can play.  I really wish that they would sleep in a little longer but this is the way it is.

Batalia update-11/21/10

Batalia is going to take it easy for a while from training.  I am going to work with Batalia by myself and teach her some advanced tricks and possibly work with her on agility and rally.  There is a local group that is training and doing rally and agility.  We are on a list for the next opening.
